October 3 10/14

10 + 3 + 1+ 4
Could be the random number
of syllables I spoke before
work intercepted the closest connection I have
or it could be how many cookies
I ate in a 24 hour period,
b/c my life tastes better with Chesapeake crumbs.
Maybe it's the percentage off
of the sale price with my friends and family discount
on a one day pass at JC Penny's
or the number of mismatched socks
I find in my children's laundry?
Is it more important to add them up
or to appreciate the intrinsic value
of each,
stop counting and just see the number
for the space it occupies
rather than what it represents to me?
Let a number be,
ya know, a number,
not a date,
a memory,
a future,
or even a breath.
10 + 3 + 1 + 4.
